A team from LINPAC Packaging has cycled the length of Ireland in just four days to raise more than £4,000 for charity.
The five-man team, nicknamed the LINPAC Legends, completed the gruelling ‘M2M Challenge’ on 8 May 2012 – a 655 km (407 mile) route which runs from Ireland's most southerly point at Mizen Head, County Cork, to the country's most northerly point at Malin Head, County Donegal.
Mark Rabbett (Technical Sales Manager), Graeme Robinson (Vice President & General Manager UK, Italy and Turkey), Adrian Lilley (Sales Director), James Diprose (Key Account Director) and Matthew Newman (Sales Executive), cycled alongside a team from the Hilton Food Group to raise money for the Mater Foundation – the official fundraising body of The Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin, which wants to open a 24-hour catheterisation laboratory.
Each team cycled approximately 175km (110 miles) a day, riding ultimately from coast-to-coast. The event was organised by the Managing Director of the Hilton Food Group, Frank McMyler – a customer of LINPAC Packaging. He underwent a triple heart-bypass at the Mater Hospital after a sudden heart attack – aged 40 – in 2010, and took-up cycling after his operation. He completed the M2M Challenge to raise awareness of issues that contribute to heart disease and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
Almost £1,500 was raised in donations for the Mater Foundation online at www.mycharity.ie, and the LINPAC Legends are still seeking further contributions.
Mr Robinson said: “We are delighted at the large amount raised for the Mater Foundation through the M2M, and would like to thank our kind sponsors while asking others to contribute to help us reach our target. The event was a huge success – both teams enjoying the challenge and the lovely scenery, and we pulled together during the tough, gruelling times – particularly in the mountains.”
