LINPAC Group remains the largest privately owned packaging manufacturer in Great Britain and Northern Ireland, according to the ninth annual Sunday Times Deloitte Top Track 100 list of the United Kingdom’s biggest private companies. Overall the Birmingham-based Group was ranked 37th in the 2010 Top Track 100 league table, which was published in the Sunday Times on 20 June 2010.
Formed in the UK in 1959 as Lincolnshire Packaging, LINPAC has driven innovative developments in plastic packaging, container and film technologies worldwide since 1969. The Group continues to enhance the performance of its products – by reducing the volume of raw material in each pack, increasing the use of recycled content, promoting reuse and returnable packaging systems, as well as developing new product applications in more environmentally friendly and attractive formats.
Still based in the UK, LINPAC is now an international market leader, with 2009 annual revenues of £1,092 million (EUR1.3 billion). The Group has 7,500 employees based at 83 locations in 29 countries around the world.
Stuart Counsell, head of the private companies programme at Deloitte, the title sponsor of the league table, commented: “The results clearly show that many private companies are delivering strong growth through revised strategies and operational efficiencies. However, in an uncertain economic climate, companies still need to strike an appropriate balance between anticipating growth as the economy recovers and controlling cost exposure if it doesn’t.”
LINPAC Group Chief Executive, Mike Arrowsmith, said: “LINPAC has a great reputation in its industry, with an international scale and market spread that positions it well in the current environment. We have continued to trade profitably throughout the recession and we have a solid platform to support the future growth of the business.
“LINPAC is a company with an enviable customer base, multiple leading market positions, a highly dedicated and committed workforce and a great future. We continue to concentrate on improving our product offer, ensuring that we provide our customers with high quality, innovative products and packaging solutions at competitive prices.”
