Say cheese with LINPAC Allibert

LINPAC Allibert has produced a new cheese box specially designed for maturing 20kg blocks of cheese. This innovative design is a joint venture with Joseph Heler Cheese (JHC) one of the UK’s largest cheese manufacturers.

With 600,000 tons of cheese consumed annually in the UK, traditionally matured in a single use container, LINPAC Allibert and JHC realised the need for a reusable crate. It had to be durable, environmentally friendly and above all, keep its shape throughout its entire storage life.

A series of strategically placed ventilation holes ensures that that there is a constant airflow, allowing even cooling and helping to promote a constant temperature around the cheese. The crates can be used in temperature ranges of –30C to +40C and will withstand washing temperatures of +85C.

Manufactured in tough polypropylene with a life span of 20 years a crate, this product fits the bill. The crates are, tough, long lasting and cost effective.  Reinforced twin-walled corners provide extra strength enabling the crates to support box stacks of up to five high, each carrying 20kg cheeses.

These crates do away with endless cardboard box packaging, commonly used within the cheese industry, thereby enabling manufacturers to comply with packaging waste regulations and save money. They can also be recycled at the end of their working lives, making new crates out of old ones.

These innovative crates allow cheese to be matured in situ for up to 12 months prior to shipment to the customer. The cheese can then be transported as a vacuum-packed product.

Danilo Oliynik, Commercial Director of LINPAC Allibert, said: “We are a company that is committed to helping our customers increase their materials handling efficiencies, improve environmental performance and save money. It's great that the cheese crate ticks all the boxes!”

Mark Beavon, Operations Director of Joseph Heler Cheese, added: “We see this as a real step forward for cheese storage. One of the key advantages of these crates is that they allow the product to maintain its shape throughout the maturation process. Using them also demonstrates a long-term commitment towards packaging reduction and associated environmental benefits.”
