Ready meals
The challenge
To provide a range of packaging for the ready meals market, catering for changing trends and lifestyles, and including both hot and cold food products.
The solution
LINPAC Packaging has devised a range of innovative products for the ready meals market that meets its objectives for optimally presenting, preserving and protecting food. They are also designed to make ready meals more convenient and safe.
Our focus is on adding value for the fast-food operator, the food processor and the consumer. The HOTpac® range, for example, is manufactured in PS foam and offers both insulation and protection for the product and the consumer. The latest addition to the HOTpac portfolio is the FC range of hinged boxes with air-flow technology that allow steam to escape from the pack – ensuring that the product remains both warm and crisp.
The range of easily stackable aPET salad bowls – available in both round, rectangular and square formats – allows consumers to view the pack’s contents. These products are clear, strong and benefit from an easy opening and secure closing feature – preventing spills and leaks.
LINPAC has formed a strategic partnership with Anchor USA to distribute its range of polypropylene bowls, trays and lids. The highly versatile range is available in a wide variety of sizes and shapes – including single portion, compartment trays, entrée platters and complete meal solutions. Clear snap-on lids with anti-fog coating and barrier lidding films are also available. Made from durable polypropylene, the range is microwave and dishwasher safe – which means that items can be reused.
Plastic film plays a key role within ready meals packaging. LINtop® microwaveable is a high-barrier lidding film that’s suitable for the microwave. LINtherm®, on the other hand, has been developed specifically for vacuum packing applications and thermoforming. Both films offer superb clarity for perfect presentation.
LINfo – anti-theft trays
The challenge
To address the growing problem of premium food theft by providing intelligent packaging that helps curb the spiralling costs of shrinkage.
The solution
LINPAC Packaging has tackled the food theft problem by creating LINfo® – an absorbent tray for fresh food that incorporates the latest electronic article surveillance (EAS) technology at its core.
LINfo can be deactivated only by the checkout scanner, and store owners are alerted if the product is taken without payment.
An EAS tag is hermetically sealed inside an absorbent tray base during production – making it undetectable to the potential thief. Trials with European supermarkets have already dramatically reduced shrinkage costs – in particular the growing problem of premium meat theft.
LINPAC Packaging’s policy on light-weighting assists in achieving compliance with the Packaging (Essential Requirements) Regulations 2003 (Si2003/1941). Our foam products are typically only half the weight of similar alternative products and therefore have a significant positive impact on the environment.
Fast food at its best
The challenge
To provide a range of packaging products for the fast food market that prevent grease transfer and spillage, while retaining heat in the food and remaining safe to hold in the hand.
The solution
To tackle the problem of spillage and grease transfer from fast-food packaging, LINPAC Packaging created the FC range – a collection of hinged boxes designed to make food on the move both more convenient and safe.
These PS foam trays have a twin tabbed closing feature to prevent food spillage and grease transfer from the food to the customer. They also benefit from the insulation properties of foam, which means food stays hot while remaining safe to carry in the hand. The unique design of the boxes allows steam to escape from the pack while keeping the product fresh, warm and crisp.
All items in the FC fast food range, which includes the FC1, FC2 and FC3, offer full branding opportunities and are available in a number of convenient pack sizes.

'Yuck' free packaging
The challenge
To create a food packaging tray that absorbs unsightly meat juices without the need for a pad.
The solution
To minimise the appearance of unsightly meat juices without the need for a pad LINPAC created LINstar®.
This multi-layered tray is a highly sophisticated product with the ability to retain meat juices within its core; minimising leakage to shelves and reducing the need for re-wraps on overwrapped packs.
In a further unique development, LINPAC has introduced LINfresh® Plus – which combines absorbent foam with high barrier technology for use in the modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) of fresh meat (see Innovation).
LINstar and LINfresh Plus are major innovations in meat packaging, enabling both retailers and manufacturers to reduce costs while better meeting the needs and preferences of consumers.
